Honey Badger is a gift notification platform that connects gift senders with recipients through SMS and email notifications. Our service allows users to send gifts with motivational challenges, creating meaningful and engaging gifting experiences.

How We Collect SMS Consent

Consent for SMS messages from Honey Badger Gifts is collected through an explicit two-step opt-in process:

Step 1: One-Time Informational Message

When a gift sender creates a gift and provides the recipient's phone number, the recipient receives a single informational SMS notifying them of the gift. This initial message includes:

The program name (Honey Badger Gifts)
A description of the gift and challenge
A clear call-to-action: "Reply START to accept and receive challenge updates"
Message frequency disclosure: "Msg frequency varies"
Rate disclosure: "Msg & data rates may apply"
Opt-out instructions: "Reply HELP for help. Reply STOP to opt out."

No additional messages are sent unless the recipient explicitly opts in.

Step 2: Explicit Opt-In via Keyword

The recipient must reply with the keyword START or YES to consent to receiving ongoing messages. Upon opting in, the recipient receives a confirmation message that includes:

Description: "You are now subscribed to gift notifications and challenge updates"
Frequency: "Msg frequency varies"
Rate disclosure: "Msg & data rates may apply"
Help instructions: "Reply HELP for help"

Gift Sender Consent

Before a gift sender can provide a recipient's phone number, they must acknowledge the SMS disclosure in the Honey Badger app, which states: "I acknowledge the recipient will be asked to consent to receive SMS messages." The sender's acknowledgment and timestamp are recorded.

                Consent Language: By replying START to Honey Badger Gifts, you consent to receive text messages regarding gift notifications, challenge reminders, and completion updates at the phone number you are texting from. Consent is not a condition of any purchase. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help. Reply STOP to cancel at any time.
            

Types of Messages We Send

Honey Badger Gifts sends the following types of SMS messages:

Initial Gift Notification (before opt-in): A single one-time message alerting the recipient that a gift is waiting, with instructions to reply START to opt in. No further messages are sent until the recipient opts in.
Challenge Reminders (after opt-in only): Motivational reminders about active challenges. Only sent after the recipient replies START.
Progress Updates (after opt-in only): Messages confirming progress on challenge steps.
Completion Confirmations (after opt-in only): A message confirming the challenge is complete and the gift is unlocked.

Message Frequency

Message frequency varies based on gift and challenge settings:

Before opt-in: Exactly 1 message (the initial gift notification).
After opt-in: Reminders based on sender configuration (none, daily, or weekly). Typically 1-5 messages per gift depending on challenge duration.
Completion: 1 message when the challenge is completed.

Opting Out

To stop receiving SMS messages from Honey Badger Gifts:

Reply STOP, CANCEL, QUIT, END, or UNSUBSCRIBE to any message you receive from us.

You will receive a single confirmation message: "Honey Badger Gifts: You have been unsubscribed and will not receive any more messages. Reply START to re-subscribe. Reply HELP for help."

No further messages will be sent after the confirmation.

Note: Opting out of SMS messages will not affect your ability to receive gifts. You can still access gifts through email or the Honey Badger app.
